VFW RECOGNIZES DEPUTY OF THE YEAR

May 11, 2021 - Today during the Board of County Commission meeting, Corrections Deputy Brian Smith was recognized as our deputy of the year.

Deputy Smith has a lifesaving award for stopping an attempted suicide by an inmate in the jail. Shortly after he was in a battle for his own life when he received a cancer diagnosis. Throughout his treatment Deputy Smith continued to work, eventually moving to a desk job temporarily. Upon his return in 2020 to his regular duties, Deputy Smith noticed a possible safety issue in the jail that was quickly resolved.

Deputy Smith is an asset to our agency and please join us in congratulating him on this well deserved recognition.
