MOM CHECKS TEEN'S SOCIAL MEDIA FINDS 39-YEAR-OLD MAN MESSAGING DAUGHTER
What mom did next was what every parent should do - she contacted us.
This morning members of the NE Florida INTERCEPT task force and the sheriff’s office arrested a 39-year-old Interlachen man for lewd and lascivious battery, traveling to meet a minor to engage in unlawful sexual conduct, using a 2-way communication device in commission of a felony and obscene communication with a minor.
“I cannot stress enough the importance parents play in maintaining their children’s contacts and social media accounts,” Sheriff H.D. ‘Gator’ DeLoach said. “This mother trusted her gut instincts that something was not right and protected her child."
In June the mother of a 15-year-old Palatka girl noticed her daughter had new Harry Potter Legos. When she questioned her daughter she felt something was off in the teen’s explanation and took her cellphone. The mother discovered inappropriate conversations between the teen and Glenn Dykes, 39, of Interlachen. At that time the mother brought the phone to the sheriff’s office. The case was assigned to Detective Allison DeVille, who is a member of INTERCEPT task force which fights human trafficking and child exploitation. Over the next several weeks Dykes continued to contact who he thought was the teen through social media.
On Friday Dykes arrived at the home with blueberry muffins, a 20-dollar bill and the complete set of Harry Potter books. Additionally there was a used condom and lube in a lunchbox inside his vehicle.
During the course of the investigation it appears Dykes friend requested the teen on June 11. Dykes is married with a 3-year-old and a 6-month-old child in the home.
"Again, I want toI commend this mother's diligence as well as her fortitude in bringing this to our attention rather than trying to just be a friend to her child," Sheriff DeLoach said. "She stopped her child from being groomed and taken advantage. As to the piece of garbage who solicits children for sex, we will see this case to fruition and that he makes a home first here in our jail and then in prison where he cannot harm children.”
Parents we want to encourage you to be aware of your child's social media and gaming presence. Know who their friends are and who they communicate with regularly. This situation could have ended very differently if it wasn't for the mother taking control of the situation to protect her child.
https://nopeakotiutuskasino.com is where I've been reading about how gambling sites frame themselves as harmless entertainment, and it's the same energy as this guy showing up with blueberry muffins and a full Harry Potter set like he's just a thoughtful friend. The detail that stuck with me is the mom catching something off in her daughter's explanation about the Legos, because that tiny gut feeling is what these predators count on parents ignoring. I've started asking my own kids follow-up questions about new gifts instead of just saying thanks, since that small pause seems to be where the truth comes out.
Thank you for sharing this story. It’s a stark reminder of how vigilant parents need to be. Huge kudos to this mom for trusting her gut, checking that phone, and doing the hard but absolutely necessary thing—bringing it to law enforcement instead of brushing it aside. Her actions likely saved her daughter from something far worse. And thank you to Sheriff DeLoach and the INTERCEPT task force for taking this seriously and working to get this predator off the streets. Every parent should read this and have a conversation with their kids today.
Parents should always be aware of who their children interact with on social media and gamingblock blast
