Long-time School Resource K-9 Retires

K9 Aries, popular with area schoolchildren officially retired last week. Aries, a German Shepherd and Belgian Malinois cross, spent his career working with his partner Master Sgt. Randy Hayes as a youth resource K9 deputy. Aries is a little bit of a celebrity in the schools and has had his picture in school yearbooks, hung out with school administrators in their offices and worked with the PAL summer camps. He is a wonderful law enforcement ambassador, loves kids and was excellent at his job.

Now 8 years old, Aries was showing some signs of slowing down and so he will get to spend his days hanging out on the couch and stealing loaded baked potatoes when Sgt. Hayes isn't looking. Prior to retirement, he was showing K9 Judo the ropes of being a good youth resource deputy.

We also have it on pretty good authority that several principals have offered to doggie babysit Aries, so don't be surprised if he doesn't still visit the schools as a doggie grandparent.

Please join us on congratulating Aries on his well deserved retirement.
