BARRICADED MAN SURRENDERS, ARRESTED FOR AGGRAVATED ASSAULT
POMONA PARK - At about 9:30 a.m. deputies responded to a call for service at 123 McClain Blvd in the Paradise Shores area of Pomona Park. The victim told deputies Dean Barger, 47, of Pomona Park shot at her and her child. The victim and child fled the residence, which she and the child shared with the suspect, and called 911 from a neighbor’s house.
Deputies attempted to contact the suspect by calling out to the residence and by phone, but the suspect refused to answer. The sheriff’s office’s SWAT team was activated and sent to the area because Barger was believed to be armed with a gun and was not responding to deputies’ commands.
At about 2:20 p.m. Barger made contact with deputies and came out of the residence on his own. There were no reported injuries to anyone involved. Barger was arrested and charged with two-counts of aggravated assault and taken to the Putnam County Jail. He is currently being held without bond.
