SOCIAL SECURITY SCAMS ON THE RISE

ree

Have you gotten a call saying your Social Security number is suspended because of suspicious activity?

THIS IS A SCAM!!! The Social Security Administration will not call you, no matter what caller ID says.

Government employees will not threaten to take away benefits or ask for money or personal information to protect your Social Security card or benefits.

Scammers can fake caller ID. They are able to clone real numbers on caller ID.

If a caller asks for Social Security number, bank account number or credit card information - hang up!

Report suspected scams to the Social Security Administration Inspector General at 1-800-269-0271 or oig.ssa.gov/report

My elderly neighbor almost fell for one of these "your Social Security number is suspended" calls last week, so this post hits close to home. It's a good reminder to be proactive about all kinds of security. It's like protecting your house; you want layers of defense. I read that even strong lock brands like Schlage https://schlage.pissedconsumer.com/customer-service.html have to constantly update their designs to stay ahead of new break-in methods, which is similar to how we have to keep updating our knowledge to fight new scams. Staying one step ahead is the only way!
