We are extremely proud to announce the addition of a mounted unit to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office. In the next few weeks, there will be several posts related to the new unit as we know many in the community are excited about this new addition.
The unit consists of two Percheron-crosses. These horses are often used for law enforcement due to their size and calm temperament. We have two sworn law enforcement deputies, including our Agriculture resource deputy, who will be riding the horses for community events. However, these horses are not just for show. They will enable us to have additional maneuverability when conducted searches in heavily wooded and swampy areas.
We have partnered with the Rodeheaver Boys Ranch to board our two Percheron mix horses.
We are also thankful and grateful to the Sheriff Hardwick and the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office for their gracious donation of horses and equipment, which allowed the unit to become a reality for us.
